All About the 2017 Kia Niro

The Niro is the goldilocks of all crossovers; it’s not too big, it’s not too small, it’s just right. But, what is it about this vehicle that strikes the perfect balance between SUV and Sedan? From our completely biased opinion, it’s nothing short of, well, everything.

Built for comfort and economy the Niro fits the bill for every soccer mom, carpool dad, and teenage road trip junkie. With an average 50 MPG of on the highway, there’s no longer a reason to “lose” your keys when you’re asked to drive.

All nursery rhymes and stereotypes aside, the Niro truly has something to offer every type of car owner. Yes, even when we throw out the jaw-dropping MPG.

Do you like to multitask? Are you always on the run? The Niro has got your cargo space covered. With folding seats and a concealed storage space, there’s plenty of room to bring all the camping and grocery essentials. The rear seats fold 60/40 allowing you the flexibility to expand your storage space a lot or a little, as needed. The concealed storage keeps valuables out of sight and allows a safe place for emergency supplies that doesn’t cut into the space of your everyday cargo area.

Road noise will be a thing of the past while driving the Kia Niro. The windshield features sound-insulating glass to help reduce all the noise that isn’t your Harman Kardon premium audio. It also features a sunroof for a warm summer’s day and a heated steering wheel for a cold winter’s night.
When it comes to comfort, Kia spared no expense in designing the Niro. Not only are the seats heated, but they also have cooling technology to keep you happy no matter what the season (and given our Midwest location, we all know how important seasonal adaptability is). Not only that but with dual-zone temperature controls both you and your better half can be happy with the degree of the air coming from the vents.

2017 Kia Niro Seats

Safety is top class and top of mind when you go to check out a new car. With the Niro, you get many features that position you to stay in control and aware of your surroundings. Power-adjustable seats that can be programmed for multiple drivers not only allows for the perfect position, but it also helps eliminate the once inevitable fight over which car to take since no one wants to readjust their seat once it’s been carefully put into place.

Multitasking not only relates to the amount of stuff you lug around in your car but also what you do while driving. With voice-command navigation and Bluetooth wireless technology, you can safely change your destination and make phone calls without taking your eyes off the road or hands off the wheel.

Now the Niro does have a push start and many wonder why this is a benefit. Well, let us tell you, it’s pure convenience. Do you have a huge purse that likes to swallow everything? Not to worry, as long as your keys are in the car you’re good to go. You have your key by itself deep in your pocket? Not to worry, you can still zip off once you’re buckled in.

Let’s talk tech. Complete with a 7 or 8-inch touch-screen display you’ll have no problem watching your navigation, your rear-camera display, or Parking Minder. Not only that, but the Niro has a wireless charging pad that works with all Qi-compatible smartphones. If we take things to the outside we encounter the Drive Wise system, complete with a forward collision warning system, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning and autonomous emergency braking.

Under the Hood

Hybrids typically get a bad rep for being costly to fix due to the CVT, but the Niro has the first standard transmission in a hybrid. This lets the driver feel more like a normal vehicle and provides more get up and go than your standard Hybrid transmission. Not to mention Kia provides a 10 year/100,000-mile warranty ensuring your transmission performs up to and above industry standards.

The Niro’s construction includes an active air flap behind the front grill that makes it more aerodynamic, increasing fuel economy and cutting down on drag. The vehicle itself is comprised of several high-tensile steel alloys that provide top-notch crash protection and help keep the ride smooth and quiet. On top of that, regenerative braking helps to charge the lithium polymer battery.
